Point B - Parliament Close

Parliament Close – Photo J. WIlson

At the junction of Bridge Street and Albert Street, you can see a plaque which indicates the location of the site of the TING, the Old Norse Parliament.

Tings were gathering places for chieftains where important decisions were made. There are other ting sites in Orkney, including at Dingieshowe and Tingwall.

Directions: To get to the next stop, walk just over 100 metres along Albert Street until you see a tree that is right in front of you and opposite the Bank of Scotland building. This is the Big Tree, our next stop!
